Bomb squads shut down the area surrounding a Fred Meyer in Auburn after a woman found a bomb attached to her car, according to Auburn Police Department. Officers confirmed that it was an improvised explosive device, said Cmdr. Mike Hirman.
After pulling into a Fred Meyer gas station at 801 Auburn Way N., the woman found a fused device with tape around it attached to her gas cap. She took it off, put it on top of her car, then called police.
The Federal Way Police Department’s bomb squad determined it was an improvised explosive device after testing and neutralizing it, Hirman said.
Police closed Ninth Street Northeast from Auburn to D Street Northeast during the investigation, but all roads have since been reopened.
