Man shot in chest during street fight in West Seattle

A man has been hospitalized after he was shot in the chest during a street fight early this morning, police said.

The victim was walking with some of his friends in the 9200 block of 30th Avenue Southwest just after 2 a.m. when another group emerged from a house, police said. The victim began fighting with one of the men. The man grabbed a gun from one of his companions and shot the victim in the chest.

The gunman then handed the gun back and drove off, police said.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center. His condition is unknown at this time.

The officers learned the name of the gunman and arrested him at his Queen Anne home.  He was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault.

Police say it isn’t clear what prompted the fight between the two groups.
