PASCO — An excavator contaminated with radiation was mistakenly sent from the Hanford nuclear reservation to a Pasco shop last week for maintenance.
Washington Closure Hanford spokesman Mark McKenna says the problem was discovered Monday afternoon when the excavator was returned to Hanford.
The Tri-City Herald reports a crew was sent to the shop in Pasco, Powers Equipment, where it found two contaminated items — a pin and shims removed from the excavator.
McKenna says the levels of contamination are low and worker health was not at risk.
