Sammamish River Bridge toll idea put aside for now

Kenmore’s Transportation Benefit District is putting aside the idea of using a toll to fund Sammamish River Bridge repairs for now.

The board is putting off discussion of tolls because it thinks there’s a possibility of getting federal grants for bridge renovation, according to a news release. Instituting a $20 vehicle fee for Kenmore residents will be discussed at its meeting next month, though.

The board is unsure of how soon the bridges — one span in each direction — need to be replaced, but the City of Kenmore is collaborating with King County on several studies that will help determine that, according to the release. The West Bridge has more wear than the East Bridge because it is older.
