Sea-Tac in top 10 list of airports with high number of TSA firings related to thefts

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is in a three-way tie at number eight for the number of TSA employees fired for employee theft, according to ABC News.

Seattle tied with Newark Liberty and Philadelphia International airports for  eighth place. The three airports had 12 TSA staffers fired.

That’s based on an ABC News report put together after the news agency sought information through the Freedom of Information Act.

ABC News says that TSA has fired nearly 400 employees for allegedly stealing from travelers.

A spokeswoman for TSA in Seattle, said that 381 employees across the nation have been terminated since 2003 for theft. Not all of these firings were for stealing from passengers.

“It is a firing for theft. It can be any type of theft,” said Lorie Dankers.  “It’s less than one-half of one percent of the officer workforce.”

Miami International Airport tops the list with 29 employees fired for theft, JFK in New York came in second with 27 and Los Angeles International Airport comes in third with 24 thefts, according to ABC.
