Seattle man arrested in mother’s death to be released from jail

A 56-year-old man arrested by Seattle police on Monday is to be released from the King County Jail today pending further investigation into allegations he caused the death of his frail, elderly mother through neglect, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Detectives are investigating the woman’s October 2011 death at her home in the 7900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South. The 89-year-old mother, whose previous body weight had been 90 pounds, died weighing 58 pounds, according to police.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office notified state adult-care agencies and the Seattle Police Department’s elder-abuse detective because she had been severely neglected, according to an item posted this week on the Seattle Police Department’s online blotter.
