A student at Eckstein Middle School was arrested this morning for bringing a small improvised explosive device to school, Seattle police said.
School staff called police after finding components for the device during a search of the student’s backpack, police said. The device was not fully assembled and resembled a large firework, according to SPD Arson/Bomb Squad Sgt. Verner O’Quinn.
“Unless it was close to somebody, it would have only caused minor damage,” O’Quinn said.
