Suicidal man fatally shot in Sumner

Police in the Pierce County community of Sumner say a reportedly suicidal man has been fatally shot by a SWAT officer after the man came out of a house pointing a weapon at officers and refused to drop it.

Police spokeswoman Carmen Palmer says the 47-year-old man called 911 at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, threatening suicide.
Responding officers found him locked in the house.

The spokeswoman says the man came out of the house shortly before 4:30 p.m. with a weapon and was shot.
