Teen cyber-threat suspect expelled from Edmonds school

UPDATE AT 2:25 P.M.: A judge this afternoon allowed the boy to be released to home detention pending the filing of criminal charges. He will be required to wear a GPS bracelet that will allow authorities to monitor his whereabouts.

The judge warned the boy if he tampers with the bracelet he will end up back in juvenile detention. The boy was also ordered to avoid unsupervised use of any home computers.

The boy’s parents attended the hearing, but declined to speak to the media.

Tomorrow is the deadline for filing charges

ORIGINAL POST: The 16-year-old Edmonds boy suspected of posting online threats against two high schools has been expelled from Edmonds-Woodway High School.

The teen was arrested yesterday at his Edmonds home for allegedly posting an online threat to open fire at Skyline High School, which prompted the closure of the school on Sept. 20. The boy, who attended Skyline between September 2010 and November 2011, is also suspected of posting a similar cyber threat in April against students at Meadowdale High School  in Lynnwood.

The teen was emergency expelled from his current school, Edmonds-Woodway High, on Tuesday, said DJ Jakala, spokeswoman for the Edmonds School District. Meadowdale High is also in the Edmonds School District.

Jakala said that the expulsion was “in the best interest of our student body.”

We’ve updated our story on the boy’s arrest to reflect the expulsion.
