Couple struck by SUV in Covington Walmart parking lot
Update 10:25 p.m.: King County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a 71-year-old man on suspicion of vehicular assault after a couple was hit by an SUV in the parking lot of a Walmart Thursday afternoon.
The King County Sheriff’s Office suspects alcohol was involved and took the 71-year-old man to a nearby hospital for a mandatory blood draw, said Sgt. Cindi West.
The man had been driving an SUV in the parking lot of the Covington Walmart, which was crowded with shoppers.
According to witnesses, the couple that was struck — a 45-year-old woman from the Covington area and her boyfriend, a man in his 40s — were walking into the Walmart when they were hit, West said. (They were not husband and wife, as reported earlier.)
Two people were hit by a car – with one left in serious condition — in the parking lot of the Walmart in Covington Thursday evening.
The two who were struck appeared to be husband-and-wife, said King County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Cindi West.
The couple was walking in the parking lot of the Walmart at about 8:40 p.m. when the driver apparently struck them, leaving the woman trapped underneath the car, according to West, who said the woman suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Harborview.
The man suffered a head injury, was considered to be in fair condition and driven by ambulance to Harborview, West said.
