Hours cut at Social Security offices in King County

Public hours at five King County Social Security Administration offices will be cut starting Nov. 19.

The Seattle Metropolitan, Seattle North, Burien, Kent and Bellevue offices will close a half hour earlier at 3 p.m.

On Jan. 2 next year, the offices will also start closing at noon on Wednesdays.

All Social Security offices will be closed Nov. 23.

Reduced government funding has made it more difficult to cover overtime hours employees use to process paperwork, according to a Social Security Administration release. Employees will continue working their regular hours to process claims work.

The release also said most Social Security services do not require a visit to the local office. Applications for services such as  retirement, disability and Medicare benefits can be made online or over the phone at 800-772-1213.

The addresses of offices where hours are being reduced:

Bellevue: 505 106th Ave. N.E.

Burien: 151 S.W. 156th St.

Downtown Seattle: 915 2nd Ave., Suite 901

Kent: 321 Ramsay Way, Suite 401

North Seattle: 13510 Aurora Ave. N., Suite B
