House fire in Auburn displaces family of five
A quick-moving fire Saturday morning in Auburn left a family of five homeless and killed two cats. No people were injured.
The fire started in the garage of the single-story house in the 1900 block of 2nd Street Southeast, according to the Valley Regional Fire Authority.
The call came in at 8:02 a.m. When firefighters and medics arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames shooting out of the garage.
The fire spread quickly to the main structure. The five occupants got out safely, and fire crews kept the blaze from spreading to adjacent homes. The fire was extinguished and hot spots mopped up by 10 a.m.
The Red Cross is assisting the family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
