Police coax apparently suicidal man out of Green Lake this morning

An apparently mentally ill man who was standing in Green Lake this morning yelling at bystanders was eventually coaxed from the water by Seattle police officers and crisis negotiators.

Police officials say they were called to the lake around 8:30 a.m. on reports of a man yelling and trying to drown himself. At one point, officers threw the man a life preserver, which he clung to.

Police managed to get the man out of the water by 9:30, said agency spokesman Detective Mark Jamieson.

The man is being evaluated by mental health experts.
