Seattle police said a bus passenger and several bar patrons cornered a purse snatcher on Sunday and held him until police arrived.
The victim told police she was sitting on a King County Metro bus at South Main Street and Second Avenue Extension South around 5 p.m. when a man reached over her shoulder and tried to steal her bag. The two struggled and the man took the woman’s purse from the bag and fled the bus.
Another passenger chased the suspect until he reached the sidewalk in front of the Fuel Sports, Eats & Beats, at 164 S. Washington St., police said. That’s where the passenger and several bar patrons held the thief until police arrived.
Police found the victim’s purse on the ground in front of Fuel. Her wallet was recovered from inside the thief’s jacket, according to police. Both items were returned to the victim.
Police said the 48-year-old thief was wanted on three outstanding felony arrest warrants. He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of robbery and for the warrants.
