Seattle man missing on Idaho rafting trip is found safe
A Seattle man who went missing earlier this week near Idaho’s Snake River was found safe this morning, according to the Idaho County’s Sheriff’s Office.
The search for Alexander “Sasha” Belyaev, 54, began Tuesday when he was reported missing from work. He had planned to end a rafting trip that started at the Hells Canyon Dam area Friday at Pittsburg Landing, where he had left his vehicle.
Deputies found his car at Pittsburg Landing on Tuesday. Then, until darkness fell, they conducted a larger search around the river with assistance from Killgore Adventures, an outdoor recreation company, but they did not find Belyaev.
The Sheriff’s Office said Belyaev was found on the Snake River this morning and that he will be heading back to Seattle soon.
“Your kindness and diligence in conducting this search was amazing,” a member of Belyaev’s family posted on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook wall. “Your outstanding team deserves the very best of congratulations from everyone who reads this.”
