Puget Sound Blood Center Thursday issued an appeal for blood donors during the holidays. Donations typically drop by about 30 percent while surgeries, and emergency room-visits don’t take a break, said David Leitch, director of donor and volunteer resources.
Leitch said there is a specific need for O-negative blood donors, ‘universal donors’ whose blood can be given to patients with any other blood type.
People can go to one of 11 donor centers in Western Washington, or check for community blood drives close to where they live or work, he said.
