Body recovered near Granite Falls

Search and rescue crews in Snohomish County recovered the body of a dead man below a 200-foot cliff near the Stillaguamish River in the Granite Falls area.

Cause of death and identity of the man will be determined by the county medical examiner, according to Lt. Steve Dittoe of the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. Dittoe said he didn’t know the race or age of the deceased. The body had not been there long, he said.

The body was reported Saturday afternoon by a resident. Investigators were at the scene, but Dittoe wouldn’t say if foul play was suspected.

The sheriff’s office had earlier reported a 56-year-old man has been missing since Dec. 1. Investigators had found evidence he may have been near the Stillaguamish River in the Granite Falls area. Dittoe would not link the missing man to the recovered body.
