Charter-school leaders to speak in Tacoma Saturday
Yvonne Chan, who led the first conversion of a regular public school to a charter, will be the one of two keynote speakers at a charter-school conference to be held Saturday in Tacoma.
Chan continues to work at the Vaughn Next Century Learning Center in Los Angeles as principal.
Other speakers include Marta Reyes, the first state director of the California Division of Charter Schools, and representatives from charter schools in California, including Green Dot Public Schools, as well as one or more from Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota and Oregon.
The conference is organized by the Charter School Resource Center, run by Jim Spady and his wife, Fawn, who have long supported bringing charter schools to Washington state.
The conference will be held at the University of Washington-Tacoma’s Phillips Hall. Formal registration ends at noon Thursday. Register here.
