Driver positively identified in August fatal hit and run in Index

Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives have confirmed the driver involved in a fatal hit and run on Aug. 4 in Index.

The victim, Stacey Broyles, 47, of Index, was walking along  Index-Galena Road with his dog when they were struck by a vehicle, which left the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Broyles was taken to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center, where he died. The dog also did not survive.

Three days later, a 49-year-old Everett woman contacted investigators and said she was involved in the accident. Her vehicle was seized so it could be processed for evidence.

The Sheriff’s Office says the results recently confirmed the vehicle struck Broyles and his dog.

The case will be referred to the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed against the driver.
