One man was killed and three wounded in an overnight shooting outside a Sumner motel.

A group of four California construction workers, in Washington state for a local job, were smoking outside the Sumner Motor Inn at 12:30 a.m. Sunday when a car pulled up and opened fire.

A 23-year-old man was fatally shot and three others were injured and treated at Tacoma General Hospital. Two were in stable condition, according to Carmen Palmer, a spokeswoman for Sumner Police. One was shot in the leg, the other in the arm and abdomen. A fourth man had surgery after being shot in the abdomen.

Palmer said the suspects were a man and woman in a silver or gray car.
