Saturday Memo: White Christmas, maybe … Las Vegas Bowl … gift ideas
White Christmas ahead: Do we jinx it by saying it? The National Weather Service has snow in its forecast early Tuesday, with snow levels dropping down to 900 feet. Until then, however, you might be looking at its more common cousin — rain. See Seattle’s weather forecast here.
Dawgs in Las Vegas: The Huskies take on Boise State in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas at 12:30 p.m. today. A victory would give Washington eight wins for the first time since 2001, while a loss would feel … well, a lot like last year, when the Huskies, with the same 7-5 record, lost to Baylor and RG3 in the Alamo Bowl.
Last-minute shopping tips: Let’s face it. A lot of us like the pressure of deadlines. If you’re like a few, ahem, of us around here, you might not be done with your holiday shopping. Here are a some of the gift ideas we’ve written about:
- Buying local gifts
- Gifts for runners and gifts for fitness lovers and even gifts for golfers
- Edible holiday gift ideas, or you can make your own foodie gift basket (see right)
- Travel books as gifts, or maybe one of the top 25 best books of 2012?
- Someone who has everything? How about a more unusual holiday-gift idea
And if you’re looking to keep it classy this holiday season, turn your radio dial to the “coolest 75-year-old in Seattle.” Jazz broadcaster Jim Wilke is approaching his 30th year of his national radio program “Jazz After Hours,” and has no plans to quit. Read more about this one cool cat.
