Woman, 83, rescued after falling into well
The Associated Press
WATERVILLE, Douglas County — An 83-year-old woman fell into a backyard well on Christmas Eve, but was quickly rescued and is in satisfactory condiction at a Wenatchee hospital.
Ernestine Eggers plunged into the well which is near her family carport in Waterville and spent about 20 minutes in cold water before she was rescued, The Wenatchee World reports.
An emergency crew found her close to unconscious, sitting in a few feet of water at the bottom of the well.
Eggers and her husband routinely remove snow from their driveway by shoveling it into the opened well and she stumbled into it Monday after the lid was left off, said Douglas County Sheriff’s Sgt. Tom Couey.
Her husband, Lawrence Eggers, said Wednesday she was “doing okay,” although she remained in the hospital’s intensive care unit.
