2 a.m. Camano fire was at pot-growing site

A 2 a.m. house fire on Camano Island today is believed connected to a marijuana-growing operation at the home, Island County officials say.

No one was injured in the fire along West Camano Drive, and it’s not clear whether anyone was home at the time of the fire.

Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said his deputies responded to the fire along with firefighters, and found evidence of a marijuana-growing operation, but he would not elaborate.

No one was taken into custody.  The specific cause and extent of damage remain under investigation.

“We’ll investigate the marijuana piece to this and if we conclude there was a crime, we’ll pursue that,” Brown said.
