Bellevue PD: Photo may show key witnesses in 1980 slaying

Police believe this photo of a Bellevue bowling team called “Who Cares” may include witnesses in the 1980 murder of Susan Lowe. (Bellevue Police Department photo)

The Bellevue Police Department is searching for witnesses to the 1980 slaying of Susan Lowe. Detectives recently linked the slaying to a convicted sex offender, Michael Allen Halgren, who has been charged in the crime, but not convicted of it.

Detectives believe some witnesses might be in this photo of a bowling team that was called “Who Cares,” according to a department release. The team played at Sun Villa Lanes in the Eastgate area of Bellevue during 1979 and 1980. Team members should contact Detective Jerry Johnson at 425-452-2754.

The department said in a release it knows it isn’t the clearest picture, but a “detective thought we would give it a try.”

As our story about the charge filed against Halgren earlier this month says, 19-year-old Lowe was killed in her apartment near Bellevue College April 23, 1980. Her roommate found her naked and strangled with a pair of pantyhose on her bed the following morning. Neighbors told investigators they may have heard some banging and a muffled scream from her apartment the night she died.
