Monday Memo: Saluting the Seahawks … Cold week ahead … Frozen body

National Weather Service / Forecast

Those Seahawks! It was a fantastic run, wasn’t it? And we like what Steve Kelley has to say: Playoff loss hurts, but talented, young Seahawks team will be back

Doggone, it’s cold! Well, not so much last night, but it’s supposed to be mighty chilly over the next several days, with temperatures dropping below freezing into Thursday. How good is your window scraper? Have you ever had to use a credit card to scrape your windows? The cold is gripping the entire West Coast, and in  California, they’re worried about the cold ruining the crops we eat.

Oh… and there’s a burn ban for King, Pierce, Snohomish and Thurston counties.

That darn flu: As if you didn’t know, the flu is going around in big numbers. Have you gotten a vaccination? Vote in our poll.

Hiker falls off trail, dies:  The man was hiking along a small trail near Coulee City in Eastern Washington Sunday when he fell about 150 feet. He died at the scene. He had earlier been rock climbing in the area with a friend, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. We’re trying to find out where the hiker lived.

Gas prices down 2 cents. That’s in a week, says AAA, but at an average of $3.38 a gallon, it’s the same as it was a month ago. Some prices around the state:  Bellingham $3.50, Bremerton $3.44, Seattle-Bellevue-Everett $3.45, Tacoma $3.43, Olympia $3.43, Vancouver $3.37, Yakima $3.29, Tri-Cities $3.15, Spokane $3.06.

Woman found dead in alley: Police say the death of the woman found in an alley in Tacoma is suspicious. She was in her 20s, and there was blood at the scene. It’s been so cold that her body was frozen. A nearby homeowner found her body. The News Tribune has the story.
