Overdue hiker found safe in Snohomish County

An overdue hiker reported missing overnight in Snohomish County has been found.

The 39-year-old man and his dog are “safe and sound,” the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reports.

Rescuers began searching for the man after receiving alerts around 10:30 Wednesday night from the 2,400-foot elevation of Mount Persis, east of Gold Bar.

The Sheriff’s Office said the man’s dog got lost Wednesday and trapped in the snow-well around a tree. By the time he got the dog out it was dark, so he signaled for help with an emergency beacon and hunkered down for the night.  The sheriff’s  mountain rescue team hiked up to the man’s location this morning
