UPDATE: North Seattle woman’s stab wounds were self-inflicted

UPDATE at 12:28 P.M.: Police now say the injured woman stabbed herself. They’re clearing the scene.

ORIGINAL POST: Seattle police hostage negotiators are attempting to make contact with a suspect inside an apartment in North Seattle after a woman was stabbed multiple times this morning, said department spokeswoman Renee Witt.

Details are still sketchy, but Witt said the stabbing victim was somehow able to make it outside of an apartment building in the 10300 block of Meridian Avenue North, just north of North Seattle Community College. Someone called 911 at 10:50 a.m. and the victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition, Witt said. She had multiple stab or puncture wounds to her chest and neck, she said.

According to Witt, medics at the scene notified officers that the suspect, who is possibly a woman, might still be inside a second-floor unit.

As of 11:30 a.m., hostage negotiators had not been able to contact the suspect and were consulting with homicide detectives, Witt said. It is unclear if the stabbing is a possible domestic-violence incident, she said. The Seattle Fire Department says the victim is in her late 30s.
