Student robbed at gunpoint on UW campus
A University of Washington student walking across campus was robbed at gunpoint Monday night, and the UW Police Department later arrested a man on suspicion of robbery.
The student, an 18-year-old woman, was crossing the Quad — an area of campus east of the Communications Building — around 10:37 p.m. when she was approached by an armed man who asked for her purse, according to UW police. The man then fled, and another student called UW police, who began searching for the suspect.
Officers stopped a vehicle that was leaving campus without its headlights on, and found that the lone driver had a handgun and purse in the vehicle. The suspect, a former UW student, was arrested, police said.
