Student robbed at gunpoint on UW campus

A University of Washington student walking across campus was robbed at gunpoint Monday night, and the UW Police Department later arrested a man on suspicion of robbery.

The student, an 18-year-old woman, was crossing the Quad — an area of campus east of the Communications Building — around 10:37 p.m. when she was approached by an armed┬áman who asked for her purse, according to UW police. The man then fled, and another student called UW police, who began searching for the suspect.

Officers stopped a vehicle that was leaving campus without its headlights on, and found that the lone driver had a handgun and purse in the vehicle. The suspect, a former UW student, was arrested, police said.
