Baby arrives early — along I-5
A baby arrived early overnight in Pierce County — in the passenger seat of a car along Interstate 5.
Washington State Patrol spokesman Guy Gill said the driver was rushing his pregnant wife to Madigan Army Medical Center south of Tacoma about 10:30 p.m. when he realized the baby would not wait. He pulled over and delivered the baby near the interchange of Highway 512 and Interstate 5.
According to KOMO-TV, state patrol troopers were first alerted to the incident when they received reports from other drivers about a Dodge Challenger.
Gill said medics who responded to the scene only had to cut the umbilical cord. The mother and baby were taken to the hospital to be checked out and were ”doing great,” Gill said.
