Fire destroys Vancouver school

The Associated Press and The Columbian

VANCOUVER, Wash. — An early Sunday morning fire destroyed Crestline Elementary School in east Vancouver.

The fire at the brick school, 13003 S.E. Seventh St., was reported at 3:17 a.m. Evergreen Public Schools spokesman Carol Fenstermacher said officials don’t know what started the fire.

As of 9 a.m. the fire was out and a salvage operation was under way, according to emergency radio traffic monitored by The Columbian.

Fenstermacher said Crestline will be closed Monday, and officials are working to find another place to send the school’s 500 students.
