Police identify second suspect in Marysville man’s slaying

Marysville police have identified a second suspect in the fatal knife attack last month on an 82-year-old man.

The suspect, a 26-year-old Marysville man, was in custody on an unrelated crime when he was identified as a participant in the slaying of Arthur Schroeder, police said this morning. Yesterday, Marysville police announced a 28-year-old woman, also in custody on an unrelated crime, was also suspected in the homicide.

Schroeder’s body was found in his Marysville mobile home on Jan. 25. Schroeder’s daughter, Bobby Schroeder, said her father kept cash hidden in his home at Brookside Mobile RV Park.

Police believe the pair killed Schroeder, ransacked the home and stole his pickup. Police say the suspects then drove the truck to the male suspect’s home, where they told an acquaintance about the homicide.

The truck was located later after it had been set on fire.

Both suspects were seen on a Community Transit bus video getting off a bus on the afternoon of the homicide at the entrance to Brookside Mobile RV Park, police said.

“We have arrested the two people we believe are responsible for the murder of Schroeder,” Marysville Police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said in a news release. “We also know there were others who were participants after the fact, including transporting the female suspect and burning the victim’s truck.  We certainly want to have additional conversations with these people to learn precisely what their level of involvement was.”
