Fundraising campaign launched for July 4 fireworks show at Lake Union

The organizers of the annual Fourth of July fireworks show at Lake Union have launched a fundraising campaign for this year’s celebration.

Seattle-based One Reel has struggled to raise funds for the Family Fourth at Lake Union show for years. This year, major sponsors include Starbucks, King-5 TV, seattlepi.com, Talking Rain, the Seattle Weekly and local radio stations: Kiss-FM, KUBE-93 and KIRO-97.3 – but there is always a need for additional donations. Washington Mutual served as the title sponsor from 2002 until the bank collapsed in 2008.

“We are needing about $400,000 at this point,” said Aubrey Bergauer, spokeswoman for One Reel. The fundraising campaign  begins today and ends March 31.

Bergauer said that if the funds are not locked down by March 31, the Fourth of July celebration will not happen.

“We begin outreach behind the scenes each year immediately following the 4th of July, but ultimately the annual April deadline will always be a reality,” according to the non-profit organization’s website.
