The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office airlifted an injured back-country skier east of the Stevens Pass ski area.
The Stevens Pass Ski Patrol was the first to reach the skier, who fell about 100 yards while skiing at the 5,200-foot level outside the ski area boundaries, according to the sheriff’s office. The skier sustained serious injuries after losing a ski.
The sheriff’s office’s Air Support Unit arrived on scene and lowered a rescue technician to a spot near the accident scene, where Ski Patrol members had the injured skier strapped to a backboard.
The skier was flown to Providence Everett Medical Center.
The condition of the skier was not immediately known.
