UPDATE 12:30 p.m.: A man was hit by a train south of the Magnolia Bridge about 5:20 a.m. today and was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he died a few hours later, according to Seattle police.
It’s unclear what the man was doing on the tracks in the area of Elliott Avenue West and West Lee Street. Police said there is no sidewalk or pedestrian crossing in the area.
Seattle Fire Department medics reported that a wheelchair, upright and undamaged, was found near the body.
Seattle Police spokesman Det. Jeff Kappel said the train operator stopped his train after realizing he had struck something. The victim was found lying under the train.
