Seattle’s 1927 fireboat draws $71,100 bid in online auction

Ten days of online bidding yielded a high bid of $71,100 for Seattle’s 1927-vintage fireboat Alki Thursday, but city officials say it could be weeks before the high bidder is identified.

The 123-foot vessel, with 16 diesel engines and many antique fixtures, has been replaced by newer, more maneuverable boats.

Online bidding for the boat ended at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Katherine Schubert-Knapp, spokeswoman for the city’s Department of Finance & Administrative Services, said the city did not have a target price in mind for the vessel. She said the city won’t be at liberty to disclose the buyer’s identity until a sale is complete. Before then, the high bidder must meet certain requirements, including demonstrating that he or she has the required insurance and moorage.
