Security breach leads to evacuations at Sea-Tac Airport
A security breach led to an evacuation of terminal concourses and to flight delays at Sea-Tac Airport tonight.
The evacuation of more than 1000 people was prompted when someone accidentally went into a secure area through an exit lane around 7:30 p.m., said Port of Seattle spokesman Peter McGraw.
Transportation Security Administration officials and members of the Port of Seattle Police Department immediately searched for the individual and found him just before 9 p.m., according to TSA spokeswoman Lorie Dankers.
The C, D and Central terminal concourses were evacuated so that those passengers could go through security checks again.
“We take security very seriously so, as a precaution, this is what happens when somebody compromises a secure area,” McGraw said.
Flights were able to resume by 9:20 p.m., McGraw said.
According to some tweets about being re-screened, the security check line was a little longer this time around.
