Sunday Memo: St. Paddy’s Day … Gun control effort fails … Online studies

Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone! Wearing green today, anyone?

Sunny two days in a row. Nice. But then there’s that Weather Service forecast graphic over there which says showers and rain. Don’t believe it. We don’t …

Gun legislation fails: Our columnist Danny Westneat writes about our state lawmakers and their failed attempt to pass a bill that would enhance background checks on gun sales in the state. As Danny writes:  It turns out after all the shock and talk, all the resolve and promise, we are right back where we started. We’re not going to do anything about guns.

Student achievement via online classes not so good: A study comparing how students do taking classes online with students taking them in the classroom shows the online students’ achievement rate lags behind that of those in classrooms. See the story by staff writer Katherine Long.
