Tuesday Memo: Boring machine’s exciting journey … Gangs of Sedro-Woolley

The tunnel: Big cranes, big ships and a massive boring machine are all part of the project to replace our beloved(?) Alaskan Way Viaduct. The boring machine is so big — more than 57 feet across — that only a handful of ships are capable of bringing it from Japan to Seattle. See the story by Seattle Times staff reporter Mike Lindblom for the details.

Gangs in Sedro-Woolley? One man is dead and another was wounded in shootings yesterday at an apartment house in this city, population about 10,500. The police say the shootings are gang-related. Really, gangs in Sedro-Woolley?

The Sounders and Obafemi Martins: Still trying to get our head around the possibility that the quick-footed forward from Nigeria, who’s played with big clubs in Italy and the U.K. and isn’t all that old at 28, wants to come to Seattle. OK, $4 million is being tossed around, but we’re just saying …

By the way, the Sounders play the Mexican club Tigres UANL at CenturyLink Field at 7 p.m. today in a CONCACAF Champions League match.

Speaking of sportsZAGS!

Weather… Did we mention the rain? OK, it was dry this morning in most areas, but just wait. It’s supposed to get wet and stay that way through Saturday.
