Hit-and-run driver critically injures passenger in South Seattle crash

A passenger riding along with an alleged hit-and-run driver is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center after their vehicle crashed into a tree this afternoon.

Seattle police say a man driving a white, 1993 Chevy Blazer on Rainier Avenue South sideswiped a northbound Nissan as he drove south past South Henderson Street. Shortly after driving away, the driver lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree.

Both the driver and his passenger had to be cut out of the Chevy Blazer, but police say only the passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. The woman driving the Nissan was not injured in the accident.

Results from a blood sample police took  from him are still pending lab analysis, said police spokesman Jeff Kappel.
