Man killed when hit by train in Auburn

A man crossing train tracks in Auburn was  struck and killed by a northbound Amtrak train tonight.

Medics responded to the incident at 8:47 p.m. but the man was declared dead at the scene near 210 West Main Street, according to Valley Regional Fire Authority.

Cmdr. Mike Hirman said witnesses told Auburn police that the man was drunk as he tried to cross the tracks while the railroad crossing arms were down. Detectives are still investigating.
