Shooting suspect in custody after standoff in Bellevue
UPDATE 10:15 P.M.| The suspect has given up on the standoff and is now in custody, according to Sgt. Cindi West.
Deputies will be clearing the scene shortly, she said.
The King County Sheriff’s Office says it is in a standoff with a shooting suspect in the 4900 block of Lakemont Boulevard Southeast in Bellevue.
The standoff with the 23-year-old man started in a parking lot around 6 p.m., said Sgt. Cindi West. Deputies had followed him to the location and, when he was approached by them, took a gun out of his car and pointed it at himself, she said.
Negotiators are working on taking the suspect into custody, West said.
The man is suspected of shooting another man in the leg in the Renton Highlands area Monday night.
Bellevue police are assisting in the standoff, said Bellevue Police Department spokeswoman Carla Iafrate, by blocking off roads such as Lakemont Boulevard Southeast and locking down nearby businesses.
Iafrate said deputies and police are trying to find a way to evacuate people trapped in those businesses.
