Truck goes from one road to another, kills woman

The 51-year-old woman driver of a mini-van was killed  shortly after 11 p.m. yesterday, and a 58-year-male passenger and 13-year-old boy in the vehicle are in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center after their Dodge Caravan was struck head-on by a pick-up going the wrong way on Highway 99 near South 95th Street.

The 44-year-old woman driving the Chevrolet Colorado truck is in serious condition, said a Harborview spokeswoman. The woman was alone in the pickup.

The State Patrol said it is investigating the accident as a possible vehicular homicide, said spokeswoman Julie Judson.

She said the truck was traveling southbound on West Marginal Place South when it left the roadway, crashed through a chain-link fence that separates the two highways and struck the mini-van, which was going north.

Judson said all individuals in both vehicles were wearing seat belts.

She said no details are available as to the rate of speed of the pickup or if the driver was impaired.
