7-year-old shoots 9-year-old sister in Auburn

A 7-year-old boy shot his 9-year-old sister in the leg with a .22 caliber rifle in Auburn Wednesday night.

The boy found the gun in the closet of another sibling, who was not home at the time of the shooting, according to Cmdr. Mike Hirman of the Auburn Police Department.

Medics took the girl to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle after the 9:30 p.m. shooting; she had non-life-threatening injuries, Hirman said.

Auburn police detectives are still investigating the incident to determine if charges for an adult are appropriate.
