Car hits freeway guardrail in Auburn, driver killed
An 18-year-old Federal Way Man died early Saturday morning after he lost control of his car on state Highway 167 in Auburn early Saturday morning, the Washington State Patrol reported.
Pavlo L. Myronets was identified as the driver who was thrown from the car, which skidded, struck a guardrail, rolled over and came to rest in a grassy ditch south of South 277th Street around 4:59 a.m.
Myronets, the sole occupant of the car, was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he was declared dead.
State Trooper George Englebright said skid marks showed the northbound 2006 Scion TC was moving fast and sideways before the driver’s side struck the guardrail and left the roadway.
Although Valley Regional Fire Authority said it was told the vehicle may have been involved in a race, Englebright said the cause of the accident won’t be determined until witnesses have been interviewed. There was no immediate indication that alcohol or drugs were involved.
The State Patrol asked that any additional witnesses contact it at 425-401-7719.
