Seattle police are investigating a Thursday morning collision along Airport Way South that left a bicyclist critically injured.
The collision occurred about 6:50 a.m. while both the male bicyclist and the driver of a Nissan sedan were traveling southbound in the 9400 block of Airport Way South, police said.
The bicyclist was thrown from his bicycle and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Tukwila Fire Battalion Chief Marty Roberts.
He was transported to Harborview Medical Center, but his condition was not available Thursday afternoon.
As is routine in serious collisions, an officer with expertise in drug recognition responded to the scene and evaluated the driver of the Nissan. It was determined that the driver was not impaired, Seattle police said. He was interviewed by investigators and released from the scene.
Detectives from the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad also responded and began their investigation. The intersection was closed briefly while the investigation was conducted.
Seattle investigators are hoping to speak with witnesses to the collision and asking that anyone with information call Detective Mike Korner in the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad at (206) 684-8927.
