Lynnwood man killed in car-tractor collision

A 58-year-old Lynnwood man was killed Friday afternoon at about 4:30 at the scene on State Route 9, just south of Mount Vernon, when his 2004 Kia Rio crossed the highway onto the opposing southbound lane and struck a 1996 Kenworth tractor, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The 42-year-old man driving the tractor was injured and taken to Skagit Valley Hospital. The hospital said he had been released.

The patrol said that in the collision, the tractor then pushed the Kia onto a 1998 Lincoln Navigator driven by a 35-year-old woman, who was not injured.

The drivers of the tractor and Lincoln were wearing seat belts, but the deceased driver was not, said the patrol.

The accident is under investigation.
