The man who was shot and killed by a security guard on Tuesday night has been identified as Brandon L. Williams, 29, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s Office. His death has been classified as a homicide.
Seattle police homicide detectives continue to investigate the shooting, police said.
Williams was among a group of men who were arguing in a parking lot near the intersection of 23rd Avenue South and South Jackson Street around 7 p.m. when the armed, uniformed guard attempted to break up the fight and asked the men to leave. Police said one man brandished a handgun and began waving it at the other men involved in disturbance and then “pointed the gun toward the security guard.”
“The security guard felt threatened and shot the man who was brandishing the gun,” police said in a post on the department’s website.
Williams, who was shot in the torso, was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he died, police said.
Police said the other men involved in the disturbance were gone by the time officers arrived.
