Man killed by semi on I-5 in Mountlake Terrace

A 33-year-old Edmonds man was killed around 7:25 this morning when he got out of his car on Interstate 5 in Mountlake Terrace and was hit by a semi-truck, police said.

Witnesses said the man, whose name has not been released, appeared to run directly into traffic, according to Sgt. Kirk Rudeen of the Washington State Patrol. He was dead when medical aid arrived, he said.

Initially, police were told that the man had parked a disabled vehicle on the right shoulder of southbound I-5 at 220th Street Southwest. But investigators found the man’s car keys on him and were able to start the car without difficulty, Rudeen said.

“The vehicle was not disabled and it had fuel,” he said.
