Man shot Tuesday by Seattle security guard dies

A man who was shot a by a security guard on Tuesday night after he reportedly pointed a gun at the guard has died, according to Seattle police.

Seattle homicide detectives are investigating the shooting and the case has not yet been forwarded to King County Prosecutor’s Attorney’s Office. It is unclear whether the guard will be charged with a crime, police said.

According to police, the victim was among a group of men who were arguing in a parking lot near the intersection of 23rd Avenue South and South Jackson Street around 7 p.m. when the armed, uniformed guard attempted to break up the fight and asked the men to leave.

Police said one man brandished a handgun and began waving it at the other men involved in disturbance and then “pointed the gun toward the security guard.”

“The security guard felt threatened and shot the man who was brandishing the gun,” police said in a news release posted on the department’s website.

The victim, who was shot in the torso, ran a short distance and collapsed, police said. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where he died, police said.

Police said the other men involved in the disturbance were gone by the time officers arrived.
