Shooting victim not actually shot; police find suspect in her purse

Seattle police shut down traffic on part of Fourth Avenue yesterday afternoon. They were searching for a shooting suspect that didn’t exist. Of course, they didn’t know that at the time.

It all started around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday after a woman limped into a coffee shop near Third Avenue South and South Washington Street and said she’d been shot in the leg. Someone called 911 and firefighters and police were dispatched to the scene.

As firefighters began to treat the woman, police began scouring the area in search of a suspect. The victim, however, was unable to provide a description and no one in the coffee shop had heard a gunshot.

The search was quickly halted though when medics began to prepare the victim for transportation to Harborview Medical Center. Police learned the victim was carrying a kitchen knife in her purse and it had punctured its sheath and her bag and left a gash on her leg.
